We recently requested to build a covered playset in our backyard and were denied by Centex's architechtural control committee because the playset's roof peak is 11 ft in height. The playset we planned to build looks like the one below. We just wanted to get our neighbors' thoughts on if they would like to be able to build a children's playset in their own backyard and/or if ya'll want them at all in our neighborhood. I for one love the idea of a covered playset because the kids are out of school during the hot summer months and need something to play on that can protect them from the sun. The Current HOA restrictions only allow a basketball hoop to exceed 10ft in height, but if we want covered playsets in our neighborhood (Covered playsets are all over 10ft in roof peak height) I propose a signed petition to the board to make covered playsets under 13 feet in roof peak height and a deck lower than the top of the backyard fence an approved recreational equipment for backyards. This would make the roof height roughly equivalent to a standard basketball backboard. Tell your neighbors what you think. We appreciate your honest and candid feedback. I don't see why they would object to this. Centex needs to be more flexible, they should follow in the leads of David Weekly, Trend Maker, Meritage Homes and the others who don't put any restrictions on their homeowners.
There are a few folks in GH who already have similar structures in their backyards, which are readily visible from the street.
